At Geelong Homes, we take pride in turning dreams into reality, and that’s exactly what happened for Amy Warner, a dedicated nurse at Barwon Health.
Amy’s journey into homeownership began with a unit in Newtown, her first step into the property market. While this was a perfect entry point, this older unit demanded constant repairs and maintenance and dealing with body corporate issues added to the challenge.
Inspired by her parents’ seamless experience building with Hamlan, Amy yearned for the benefits of a hassle-free, low-maintenance home. She adored the vibrant community of Newtown and was hesitant to move further out to one of the Greenfield estates, but she found and quickly purchased a block in the Gen Fyansford estate for its close proximity. Eager to find the perfect builder for her dream home, Amy’s search led her through various display homes and conversations with multiple builders.
Amy’s journey took a positive turn when she met Chris and Kasey from the Hamlan & Geelong Homes sales team. Their approachable nature and transparent communication made Amy feel at ease. They provided her with valuable advice, were quick to reply to her questions and she developed a connection with them that gave her confidence to build with Geelong Homes. She was also impressed with the presentation of the Geelong Homes displays and appreciated that Geelong Homes are a local builder.
The Geelong Homes sales team worked closely with Amy to bring her vision to life. She was drawn to the Arcadia 206 design, which perfectly suited her lifestyle and the north-facing aspect of her block. Amy made some personal touches to the floorplan, adding raked ceilings to the open-plan kitchen, living, and meals area, and a highlight window to create a unique, elevated feel to the home.
“The back of the home with the raked ceiling, green kitchen cabinetry, and highlight window is my favourite part of the home,” Amy shared enthusiastically.
Amy’s experience with Geelong Homes has been nothing short of positive. She emphasises the affordability and the ability to make custom changes without breaking the bank. Supporting a local builder and local trades was a priority for Amy, further justifying her decision to build with Geelong Homes.
Reflecting on her building journey, Amy highly recommends considering upgrades like higher ceilings if the budget allows. “You can always change light fittings and other smaller things down the track,” she advises future homeowners.
Amy found inspiration for her interior design, fittings, and fixtures by browsing Instagram and home magazines. She also benefited from the valuable advice and support of her mother, who had previously built a new home.
After moving in, Amy focused on landscaping, a task she found more challenging and time consuming than anticipated. She advises future homebuilders not to overlook the time and effort required for landscaping and to set aside funds for garden beds, plants and turf. Now all the finishing touches have been finalised on Amy’s home, she’s looking forward to relaxing and seeing her garden flourish and mature.
Living in her new, low-maintenance home with the peace of mind provided by a warranty has been reassuring for Amy. She hasn’t looked back on her old unit in Newtown and is thrilled with her decision to build with Geelong Homes.
At Geelong Homes, we’re honoured to have been a part of Amy’s journey and look forward to helping more clients like her achieve their dream of building a new home. Welcome home, Amy!
