How to incorporate the latest trends into your interiors

After many years of white, minimalist and Scandi interiors dominating home design, we’re finally seeing a major shift in the design of modern interiors to a style that is more warm and eclectic.

Potentially a response to spending more time in our homes since the pandemic hit, home dwellers are opting for interiors that are comforting, calming and filled with sentimental objects they truly love.

The Geelong Homes’s newest display home, the Riverside 246 in Coridale Estate in Lara, has really leant into these emerging trends. Guided by our interior design team, this home is modern, yet welcoming, thanks to its colour selections plus some hero pieces of furniture and homewares.

Let’s take a closer look.

Curves

Curves – whether it’s furniture or more structural details such as walls and door frames – this is one trend that isn’t going anywhere.

The beauty of curves is in a curve’s natural softness – a curve can create a look that’s easy on the eye and instantly adds a sense of calm to a space.

At Geelong Homes, our interior design team have introduced curves to our Riverside 246 display in a number of ways.

The Globe West Classique oval console at the home’s entrance sets the tone, leading your eye through to the feature piece of artwork at the end of the hallway and is completed with a round pendant from Beacon Lighting.

Curved furniture like this Globe West console adds a natural softness to the interiors.

Two more gorgeous pieces from Globe West are the Benjamin Ripple Round table for both the dining and coffee tables. These curved tables not only make good use of space but creates a lovely sense of harmony and flow throughout the living areas.

Natural textures

Geelong Homes is a coastal home builder, so any trend that lends itself to a coastal look is one that we will always be drawn to.

Natural textures is another trend that is here to stay however it is beginning to stray away from the more common beachhouse look to a more modern approach.

More people are wanting to connect with nature and seeking that hand-crafted look in their homewares – and there is no better way to introduce that look than with the tactile textures of timber, jute, bamboo and rattan.

In our Riverside 246 display, natural textures have been incorporated into the interior styling in a variety of ways.

Timber has been used as feature pieces throughout this home with Blackbutt timber used as a screen in the study nook and as a feature shelf wall in the main bedroom. Timber has also been used throughout the furniture pieces.

Timber grain has been used in the selection of the kitchen, bathroom and laundry with a Laminex black vertical grain texture used for the cabinetry. It’s modern but still has those beautiful natural, tactile grain textures.

Jute rugs have also been used in the living spaces as an unobtrusive way to add natural textures to this home. While rattan accents can be found on the dining chairs, coffee table and second bedroom’s bedhead.

Mid-century modern accents

The Mid-century modern look is really making resurgence over the past couple of years. And you don’t have to live in a time capsule home of retro items to make the most of this iconic style.

In the Riverside 246 display, our interior design team has introduced elements of mid-century modern in a subtle way.
