Our 7 steps towards a stress-free build

We’ve all heard the horror stories about building your own home — the hidden additional costs, the project falling behind schedule, the wrong fittings. But don’t let any of those stories turn you off. At Geelong Homes, we want you to enjoy the building process as much as we do. When it comes to delivering you a beautiful home — we’re all about professional advice, transparency and a seamless process. And this starts from the very first time you make contact with us. Geelong Homes’ 7 steps of the building journey serve as a clear guideline on what to expect when you choose us to build your dream home — with no surprises!

What are the steps?

1.Choosing your home
Before we get started, we’d like to get to know you better and understand what is most important to you. Are you a couple planning to start a family, or you have a family with lots of demands or maybe you’re a downsizer looking to simplify your day-to-day living?
When meeting one of our friendly and experienced Geelong Homes new home consultants, you’ll get the chance to look at a range of homes that we believe would suit you and your needs. Together we will run through the floorplans to make sure the design is the perfect fit for you.
And if you don’t have land yet, don’t worry. Our consultant can also help you find the right block to build your new home.
Once you have chosen your block and your home design is selected, your new home consultant will provide you with a proposal of costs to build your new home. This proposal will include your additional requirements and site costs.
What’s most important at this step is we are completely transparent with our pricing, so there are no hidden surprises.

Deposit
At this point, it’s time to put some cash down. At Geelong Homes’ we only require a deposit of just $2000 to get you on your way. What this deposit does is secure the current pricing of your home and any relevant promotional offers.

Preliminary plans
We want you to have plenty of time to look over the preliminary plans before you give it the final sign off. This is why once they’re completed, a set of the plans will be presented to you to check over before we prepare your final plans for contracts. This gives you a chance to make any changes or ask any questions before your contracts are prepared.

Style studio
This is the fun part! Often people say they feel overwhelmed by all the choice during this part of the building process. At Geelong Homes, our expert colour consultants are on hand to help make this a straightforward and enjoyable experience.
Our colour consultants will meet with you in our Style Studio and guide you through the selection of your home’s colours, fixtures, and fittings.
This is your chance to personalise the look and feel of your new home — the way YOU want it.

Contract
Before you sign your contract, we’ll send you an electronic copy of your contract to look over before you meet with your new home consultant who will go through all the details.
This gives you the opportunity to have a good read over the contract and note down any questions you have ahead of your meeting.
Armed with any questions you may have, you will now meet with your new home consultant to sign your contract. Your new home consultant will talk you through the HIA contract details and explain all the documents, including costs and finalised house plans.
At this meeting, the contracts are signed and a copy is given to you to keep.

Construction begins
Now it’s getting real! Prior to construction commencing you will meet with your Geelong Homes site manager. The site manager is your main point of contact throughout the construction process. At this meeting, you’ll go over your plans in detail. This is a great opportunity to discuss all aspects of your build.
It’s time to start the construction of your new home. You’ve met your site manager, you’ve looked over the plans and now you can feel rest assured knowing you’ve got our 100 per cent commitment to your satisfaction at every step of the way. If you have any questions during the construction – your site manager is just a phone call away.

Move in!
Once your home is complete, your site manager will meet you at your new address, take you through your lovely new home and present you with your keys.
You are now the official owner of a brand-new Geelong Homes home — it’s time to move in!
